Miss Stacey Hamilton

Stacey Hamilton is currently undertaking a PhD within the Curtin Water Quality Research Centre titled: 'Characterisation and Treatability of Natural Organic Matter in Groundwaters Used for Drinking Water'. The research involved in this project aims to study in detail, the origins, structural features and reactivity of natural organic matter (NOM) in a selection of Perth groundwaters. The NOM within these groundwaters will be isolated into more simplistic fractions using sophisticated or established laboratory procedures. Once isolated, the NOM fractions will be subjected to treatment by contemporary water treatment processes used in Western Australia to investigate their effectiveness with respect to removal of the different NOM fractions. The degree of removal by any treatment processes will be dependent on the structural features, molecular weight distribution and bioavailability of the NOM. The information obtained in this study may help optimise catchment management and treatment processes which will ultimately contribute to the improved quality of drinking water supplied to consumers. Stacey also does some casual research assistant work with CWQRC.
