Applications of CSIA in the Study of Extant Plants

Introduction

D/H of individual organic compounds shows great potential for the reconstruction of D/H of palaeoenvironmental water and climatic variation For most plants, water is the prime source of hydrogen; thus D/H of biomarkers in sediments derived from higher plants carries valuable information on past precipitation and changes of the isotopic composition of water within the global water cycle.
